Back to breathing
I am learning how to breath naturally. It is not as easy as it sounds. The book ‘The power of your breath’ by Anders Olsson is my guide on this journey. It is a true eye opener. I love the expression ‘back to basic’ and hardly anything is as basic as breathing. Yes we do breath without having to think about it but breathing consciously helps me to breath in a natural, correct, way. Breathing in the correct way can help our bodies to function optimally and to heal itself.
In an article published yesterday Anders Olsson describes the five principles for better everyday breathing habits. Counscious breathing should be through the nose, with the diaphragm, slow, rhythmic and quiet. I believe I have mastered breathing through my nose (also when sleeping and jogging) and I am now more focusing on breathing with my stomach. I’ve become very aware of how tight certain cloths are and how awkward it feels when I force my breath up in the chest just to make my belly look flatter. I hope most of you don’t do that to yourselves.
In a month from now I’ll join a course to become a Conscious Breathing Instructor. I’ll keep you updated with facts and reflections. In September I will need two people who I can coach in retraining their breathing habits. Let me know if you want to be one of them!
